A 200-line library and no instances
The principles doc says dSync is “seamless.” The same doc says implementing server-to-server comms is not ideal because “there arent any known instances yet” and the client still is not complete.
Product autopsy · Direct Communication Through Sockets
DCTS sells independence, encryption, and a network that cannot be taken down. View source on dcts.community: the HTML still contains four identical Latin filler reviews from John D. and Jane D., dated April 21, 2014. The project started in 2023 as a CSS skill check.
What this site is
DCTS (Direct Communication Through Sockets) is a Node/Socket.IO chat app by Reddit user u/HackTheDev, also shipping as Shy Devil. The pitch is TeamSpeak control plus Discord chrome, plus a side of “we are not yet another Discord alternative.”
The marketing site is a Bootstrap Studio export. The CSS still contains leftover hero-nature, hero-photography, and hero-technology backgrounds. The testimonial carousel’s dummy copy is still in the page source. The comparison table grades competitors with the founder’s own smear posts as citations.
This page is the product they described, written in English, with the claims checked against the repo, the docs, and the public Reddit record.
Their specials, translated
The principles doc says dSync is “seamless.” The same doc says implementing server-to-server comms is not ideal because “there arent any known instances yet” and the client still is not complete.
Independence lore: custom libraries, no investors, donation only. package.json still lists discord.js, Google STUN was used for voice, and the 2024 release notes floated charging companies.
The About page says E2EE DMs happened because “it was thought to be cool.” The public comparison lists E2EE on desktop DMs. The web product is a Socket.IO room with a MySQL option.
Features.html promises “No ego, misleading reports or FOMO tactics.” The homepage then rates Stoat, Fluxer, Matrix, and Spacebar as untrustworthy, citing r/dcts posts written by the same person.
The comparison cell for Fluxer is the phrase “Possibly vibe coded.” CONTRIBUTING.md tells contributors to avoid AI. The marketing site left 2014 lorem ipsum in the page source.
The founder told a user to avoid cloning main because “i sometimes push something to it thats not ready yet,” then added “Docker i cant promise as i didnt test it yet.”
Exhibit A
“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, nec cu omnium ponderum instructior… Per te convenire facilisis.”
That block may not show when the page renders. It is still in the HTML. View source on the homepage and on features.html: John D. and Jane D. each get two identical five-star slides, dated April 21, 2014, nine years before DCTS existed. The photos are stock. They shipped the template copy and never took it out of the markup.
The founder
u/HackTheDev runs r/dcts as a news feed and a dump for competitor hit pieces. The official DCTS comparison table uses those posts as the “trustworthy & transparent” column. The features page still claims the project has “no ego.”
Public record: instant perma-bans, founders of other tools called “childish” and “scummy,” a refusal to speak to Matrix/ActivityPub/Nostr, and a contributor policy that rejects unsolicited work until it is pre-approved and a CLA is signed.
If you would not trust a person who cites himself as evidence that everyone else is a predator or a vibe coder, you already understand the product.
